Its not likely to be a gift that stands the test of time, but it will prove to be a timely novelty.

Its where many long-time fans had their first Pokemon adventure, and its the region where I met one of my favorite characters of all time. Its with great relief that, even when I consciously remove those glasses, I find something greatly deserving of that deep admiration when I look at Pokmon: Lets Go. After about 40 hours with the Pikachu version, I put down my Nintendo Switch impressed with how well this reimagining of Pokemon Yellow matches my memories of my first adventure, albeit with a few major differences that almost all turn out to be for the better. Similar to Pokemon Yellow before it, Pokemon: Lets Go starts you with either a Pikachu or Eevee before the team can set out on their adventure to capture more Pokemon, collect the regions eight gym badges, and defeat the Pokemon League Elite Four. The opening scene with either Pikachu or Eevee is adorable, and I love how different turns in the story acknowledge that this is not the first adventure set in Kanto. If you own the Japanese version of Pokemon BlueRed or Yellow and youre looking to link it up to your N64, get the Japanese Pokemon Stadium 2. Although not quite as good as the US Pokemon Stadium, at least PokeSta 2 lets you use all your Pokemon. Even as an add-on for the Game Boy games, Pokemon Stadium Japan is much too limited. The game isnt incredibly deep, but the incentive of catching new creatures for your personal collection is a strong enough force to get you going to the end. The game is super easy to pick up and play, yet its challenging it its own right. And its addictive. After playing both Pokemon RedBlue and then Yellow, I have to say that Pokemon Yellow is the best version to start out on the whole Pokemon craze. Its good for some laughs for about 10 minutes, but trying to accustom yourself to the erratic camera and thick control just wont happen easily. If youve played something like Turok it will be all the more painful trying to control your character. Its a first-person perspective and you can use the C-buttons to strafe left and right, but its terribly stiff. Id rather be out mixing cement than having to deal with this control scheme. From the eyes of a child this game will probably be a bit more appealing because you get to talk to Pikachu. With that said, though, the sloppy game engine is going to choke the patience out of children, and theres seldom much to begin with. If youre a parentguardian looking to give your child a great gift for the Holidays this may actually turn out great.
